Spring Break: Monday!

Oh, how sweet it was not to have to take kids to school this morning!!! Granted, we only slept in until 7:00 AM, but those extra 30 minutes felt like heaven :) I know there are many many advantages to home schooling, but for me, if we ever home schooled, I think the #1 reason would be not having to get up at the crack of dawn to get kids dressed, fed, and off to school before they are coherent.
I know, I'm kinda lazy :)

We spent our first official Spring Break morning at the doctor's office, though. I suspected last week that Jaina was in the midst of a sinus infection and I was right. We also talked about allergy meds and her need for them. She will now be taking 10 mg of Claritin a day, plus a dose of nasonex to keep these allergies under control. Poor thing, guess she can't escape the inevitable family history of allergies!

After that, we went over to my mom's house to make crafts from the Family Fun magazine. I forgot my camera, so I'll just have to wait to post pics.

Then we went out to eat Mexican food with our former neighbors. I think all the kids played with their food more than they consumed any, but we had fun at any rate :)

The Simpsons invited us back to their house, so we hung out there for a few hours before taking their middle child home with us for the night.

On our way home, we stopped at the park by the lake:

Jayce wasn't feeling well, I think he's coming down with a cold. He had a drippy nose that he tried to use his fingers unless there was a tissue quite handy. Don't you love his pink nails? He sat so patiently for them to be painted a few weeks ago.

Once we were home, we all ate a healthy dinner of baked chicken, potatoes, and veggies before watching a movie and eating popcorn. It was a good day :)

Spring Break: Weekend Review

This past weekend officially marked the start of SPRING BREAK '09 for the kids.

And can you believe I didn't carry my camera with me at all this weekend?

Jaina's Best Friend Forever (you know, aka BFF) spent the night with us on Friday. We ate dinner at Zaxby's (Jayce is doing SO much better in restaurants lately!) and then the girls stayed up until midnight watching movies and eating popcorn.

Saturday was cleaning day (yuck!) with the only fun part being our McDonald's outing later that afternoon. My mom originally had agreed to babysit for the kids while Brian and I went to play Trivia at Terry's Tap Room, but since she has the rotavirus that we gave her, we decided to cancel those plans. Instead, the kids and I stayed up watching TV until 9:30 together. Then I was a goof and stayed up myself until 1:30 watching The Notebook on the Oxygen Channel, despite having seen that movie at least 10 times. Jayce wasn't sleeping well, so I put him in the bed with me. Brian woke us up at 2:30 AM when he got home and decided to sleep in Jaina's bed where there was more room, since Jaina was sleeping in the bonus room that night. Musical beds!

The next morning we made our typical Sunday pancakes. Instead of Mickey Mouse ears, Jaina wanted letters. Boy was I bad at making them! I'll have to ask my friend Ana how she does hers so well! I tried to make several "M's" for Mommy, but broke all of them. I managed two "J's" and two "W's" (why did I break the M's but not the W's??) for the kids, so they were happy. Brian was a grump and didn't eat any of my pancakes!

Jayce pours the ingredients:

After our grocery store excursion, I was picked up by my friends Brittany and Chrissy and we all three headed up to the outlet stores. We went to GAP, Children's Place, Gymboree, Carter's, and Osh Kosh. There was a huge sale at Osh Kosh, so that's where I spent 1/2 my money. Now Jaina is entirely ready for Spring/Summer clothes :)

When I got home at 5:30 PM, the entire house was quiet. I found Jaina asleep on the couch, Brian in our bed, and Jayce in his bed. At 5:30 PM!!!! UGH! All you moms know that late afternoon/early evening naps are just evil! You can kiss bedtime goodbye when that happens. And you have an internal struggle about when and how you wake your kids up. I took the coward's way out and didn't wake Jayce at all. He slept until after 7:30 PM. But thankfully he was ready for bed again by 10:30 PM. But boy was *I* tired!

Mr Mom

Ever since Jayce started school in the Fall, we've seen a huge increase in Jayce's ability to play pretend. Its not that Jaina didn't try her best to teach Jayce all along, its just that Jayce didn't really want to have anything to do with Jaina for the most part. Not anymore! Now he follows her around like a typical little brother wanting her to play with him. Jaina loves this because he'll basically do whatever she says. :)

They play school, they play elevator, they play baby, they play dog, and they play horsey. On his own, Jayce likes to play kitchen, cooking popcorn and hot dogs in the play microwave. He also has a pretend washer that he likes to clean on certain pair of socks in.

But I've never seen him take care of a doll before!

I was folding laundry in my bedroom (excuse the messy clothes and the huge donation trash bag in the back ground) one morning and in walks Jayce with Jaina's baby doll in his hands. He put her on my pillow on the floor and gently put a changing pad on her for a blanket. Then he tried to feed her a bottle with an old baby bottle from when Jaina was a baby. Then he said she was crying, so he got her a tissue to wipe her eyes.

I'm so proud of my "Little Daddy" :)

Need some Blogger help

Has anyone ever been contacted by Blogger and told that they have reached their quota on photo storage? This has not happened to me, but to a friend of mine and I am perplexed! Anyone know what she should do? Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

Uploading a picture just to see if it shows my storage usage...

ah-ha... it does! I'm using 50% of my storage. Which is not bad considering I've had this blog for 3 years now!

L-E-T-T-E-R-S

I don't remember the first time I saw name letters on a kid's wall. It may have been at my friend Jessica's house, since she did a brief stint as a WAHM (Work-at-home mom) with her company "Wooden It Be Nice".

When I was pregnant with Jayce, I decided to go out and buy letters as soon as Brian and I had agreed on a name. I remember thinking "Okay, after I paint these things... there's no turning back! His name will be Jayce!" which is just ridiculous. Its not like I couldn't have just bought new letters :) I ended up getting a set for Jaina, too. And then never did a thing with either set.

Jaina finally begged me to paint her letters. Since she is a very artistic, funky, creative little girl, I tried to carry that theme into her letters. That's why they are so busy and colorful. Just like my Jaina :)

One TERRIFIC Kid

The day after Jayce and Brian got sick, I was able to leave those two miserable boys at home and go to Jaina's school to attend her awards ceremony. She was named "Terrific Kid" for the 3rd quarter of school. Only one child per class is chosen every 9 weeks, so it is quite an honor.

When her teacher submitted Jaina's name to be considered, she wrote this:

Jaina was selected Terrific Kid for the third nine weeks because she is respectful to her teacher and peers. Jaina is friendly and caring. She sets a good example in class.

On the day of the awards ceremony, Jaina took great care to pick out her favorite shirt, favorite shorts, and to brush her hair until it shined. Okay, so she didn't look like all the other kids who were in their best school clothes and dressed up a bit, but she didn't care :)

I'm so proud of her :)

Celebratory Ice Cream

Oh my goodness, that was one heck of a stomach virus! Although the doctor was baffled by Jayce's peculiar symptoms and the length of his stomach virus, I'm pretty convinced he had the infamous Rotavirus bug that always plagues children sometime before their 5th birthday. I am fully aware of the new rotavirus vaccine called rotateq, but honestly, I'd rather my child have the virus than the vaccine. The risk of the virus is dehydration. The risk of the vaccine is intestinal inception. I'll take the dehydration, thankyouverymuch.

Anyway, not only did Jayce get it, but Brian and I got a mild case as well. It seems as though like most viral infections, your body's immunity tends to wear off as an adult. However, Jaina was completely protected from it since she had a documented case of rotavirus as an infant while we were still nursing.

Well, that's all over and done with now. On to bigger and better things!

To celebrate our new family wellness, we headed over to Bruster's Ice cream place on Tuesday evening since Brian came home early from work. The weather was gorgeous in the 70's. Perfect ice cream weather because it wasn't hot enough to melt it right away.

Go ahead... take a big lick!

Jaina likes lots of eyes.

Jayce likes lots of sprinkles.

This picture is very typical of my kids... Jaina is gobbling her ice cream up, not caring if its messy or gets on her or what. Jayce is too busy studying the ice cream to see if any drips are coming his way to fully enjoy it. Or, maybe he's enjoying it in his own way?

This picture almost says "SUMMER IS HERE!" to me. Too bad its only March!

Jaina's going to town on that thing!

And a rare picture of the blog author herself, taken by budding photographer, Jaina C.

small hiatus

The Walker family isn't doing so swell. Everyone but Jaina and the dog are sick with some weird stomach virus. Its caused different symptoms in all of us, but Jayce being the worst so far. Its been a LONG week. I'll be taking him back to the doctor tomorrow because I just don't know what to do for him anymore.

I think the blog will have to wait until things are back to normal around here. But in the meantime, I'm leaving you with two cute pictures to giggle over.

Jayce proudly gets out of the tub by himself. Brushes his teeth without help. And insists on wrapping the towel around him by himself, too.

But whoops... it just won't stay on!

Its not easy being green

Last night, the entire family was awaiting St. Patrick's Day with eager anticipation. We laid out our clothes, making sure Jaina and Jayce had matching jeans on for pictures. Jaina traded her hot pink earrings for some more Irish-friendly. We located our four green beaded necklaces that were purchased a few weeks ago in preparation. We read a new book on leprechauns from the library. We planned our St. Patrick's day meal; some cabbage soup and Irish soda bread.

But today didn't happen as planned at all.

Jaina woke up with a bad headache and a slightly queasy stomach. I let her rest on the couch with some tylenol in her system while I got Jayce ready for school. Jaina felt slightly better and expressed interest in going, so I took her in late, after dropping Jayce off first.

When I went to pick Jayce up, his teachers were concerned that he was getting sick. "He's just 'off' today. He's laying his head down a lot and not talking. And didn't eat his snack." I took him home and he seemed droopy, but not too sick. He drank some soda in a green cup on the couch.

I asked him if he wanted to go to Talon's house for a MOMS Club lunch and he got very excited! "Miss Michelle (Talon's mom) likes Jayce," he said. She sure does :)

So, we went to the MOMS Club potluck lunch and had a great time. Jayce played well with Talon and also with Nicole's son Colin. He didn't want to eat anything, but that's normal for Jayce. He ended up asking to eat some cheese crackers in the car when we left.

We left about quarter til 1:00 to hightail it over to SRMC for therapy. He was fine in OT. But when he got to ST/Feeding, he just melted before our eyes. We cut the session early and as soon as I put him in the car, he was sound asleep.

Acting on gut instinct, I drove him straight to our doctor's office. They were completely booked up solid today... and tomorrow, too. They said I could wait to be worked in, so we did. 2 whole hours in the waiting room with no toys or anything to keep us occupied. For the first 30 minutes, Jayce laid lethargic in my lap. But then he got a second wind and kept me on my toes for the rest of the wait.

As soon as we got into the exam room, Jayce vomited all over me. Yuck. Luckily I was wearing black and was able to wipe the majority off. But the doctor was puzzled about his symptoms. It wasn't acting like the typical stomach bug virus that is going around. He doesn't have strep, nor the flu. We left the doctor's office very puzzled. And he threw up, yet again, on the way home.

We quickly picked up Jaina at the art center. She drew and colored this amazing picture of a Leprechaun without any help or stencils or anything. I couldn't wait to take a picture of it and post here. And then she promptly gave it away to her best friend Ashlan while dropping off some homework at her house. Oh well!

When we got home, Jaina reminded me that I never took St. Patrick's Day pictures of her and Jayce. Yeah, no kidding. I couldn't exactly proceed with my photoshoot that I had all planned out in my mind. But she wanted her picture taken, so we went outside and did our best. You know, I love backlit sunset pictures that other people take, but I have definitely not mastered the art of taking them myself yet. But I think Jaina's cute anyway :)

We're going to try to do our "Irish" stuff tomorrow instead. Better late than never!

I could never live in Seattle

Well, my friends, those are the last pictures I have taken on my camera. The fun and festivities of outdoor play abruptly ended on Thursday of last week. Since Thursday, it has been cold (40's), overcast, and raining non-stop. Even as I type this at 4:18 PM on Monday afternoon, the same descriptions apply. Oh, wait... I'm sorry. Its now up to a balmy 54 degrees. What an improvement. Note the sarcasm please.

Weather affects me greatly. I need to see and feel the sun on a daily basis to feel energized and motivated. These past few days have made my energy level drag. I've barely gotten out of my PJ's on most days. Our weekend sucked. Because of the weather, all the fun St. Patrick's Day stuff got canceled. The outdoor birthday party we were invited to got moved to McDonald's. Any plans to go play mini-golf or go back to Chimney Rock were squashed.

However, all that is going to change!

Forecast for tomorrow:

TUESDAY
AREAS OF DENSE FOG IN THE MORNING. MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS
AROUND 70. NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 MPH.

I'll take some dense fog if we get to 70's tomorrow! YAY! My kids can wear the St. Patrick's Day shirts that are short sleeves!!!

What we've been up to part FIVE

On Wednesday, we went to Milliken to feed the ducks with Brittany, Ashlan, Kyler and their friends Chrissy, Nicole, Alex, and Lily. Jaina kept complaining about how hot it was. It was only in the low 80's! I hate to hear her complain this summer when its in the upper 90's!!

What we've been up to part FOUR

Well, now that you are completely caught up with the Walker Family Adventures from LAST weekend, its time to move on to last week.

Can we say GORGEOUS??? It was absolutely GORGEOUS outside last week. Oh my goodness, I cannot begin to describe how wonderful it felt to have that warm sun on my skin. We played outside every single day until the cold and cloudy sky came on Thursday. I think we crammed a whole lotta fun in those few days.

On Monday afternoon, we went over to Ashlan and Kyler's house to play.

When we got home, we found a box from Corey on our front door step. Jaina was disheartened to learn that there were only train tracks for Jayce in there. Until I opened the box, that is. Much to our surprise, Corey had stuck an extra goodie in there for big sister... an ice cream sandwich maker mold kit! We had a lot of fun making ice cream sandwiches that day :) THANKS COREY!!!

Tuesday found Jayce and I heading over to the park by the lake with his good buddy Louis.
