Two Terrific Kids

End of the school year also means "End of School Year Awards!"

Jaina received the "Terrific Kid" award for the last nine weeks of school. This is quite an honor since only one student from each class gets picked each semester. She was nominated by her teacher for her willingness to help others and her ability to get along with anyone. ( I secretly wondered why these two characteristics don't show up at home?)

Jayce was a terrific kid in his own right :) He was awarded the "Most Effort" award from one of his therapists at school. Way to go, Jayce! He even got recognized at the district-wide dinner.

Then a few days later, Jaina received more classroom awards. Her class voted her "most creative". I think that fits! :)

I'm so proud of my kids!

Field day, take 2

If you missed the first post about Field Day, click here.

Okay, where was I?

Oh. After Jayce (and the entire 2nd grade) grabbed a soda or a bottle of water, we headed inside to Jaina's classroom to celebrate her birthday with her class.

I can't believe I forgot to take a picture of the cupcakes immediately after decorating them! You know, before the frosting had settled and rubbed up against the carrier. And when there was 24 cupcakes, not 3 left. Oh well!

The class had gone to go get lunch in the cafeteria, so it was calm and quiet with just our family for a minute.

Jayce occupied a vacant desk and fit right in with all the other kids. The 2nd graders were very sweet to him!

We only stayed in the class for a few minutes. It was fast approaching the noon hour. And if you know my family, you know what we do every Friday at noon....

Taco Bell Day! (Thank you, Sandra the manager, for taking our picture!)

And here's some random photos from Field Day that I forgot to add to yesterday's post...

The end.

Field Day 2010

Okay, okay. Time to quit slacking on my blog. We've been having non-stop fun for almost 2 weeks straight and I have the thousands of pictures to prove it! Now I just need to get them on my computer and uploaded here! Be on the look out for Jaina's birthday, Awards day, International Choir, and lots and lots of playing in the sprinklers.

But first, FIELD DAY 2010!

We just love Field Day in our house :) The whole family orders school shirts to wear. Brian even takes a 1/2 day off work for the occasion. And if you know my husband, he NEVER takes a day, even a 1/2, off from work.

Jayce, Brian, and I arrived at the school just in time to see Jaina compete in a relay race.
As you can see, it involved a plunger and a tennis ball. I am always amazed at what props are needed for a fun field day.

Next up, "egg and spoon race." I had a hard time convincing Jayce that the egg was not real and would not break when it  hit the ground.

Jaina wasn't the only student we came to support. We clapped and cheered just as hard for Eva, especially since her mom was at work and couldn't be there.

Jayce was unenthusiastic about the whole field day concept and decided to walk away by himself for a while....

until one of the resource teachers got him involved. He was her "helper" for the rest of the events.

And he turned into quite a little cheerleader :)

Jaina was appreciative :)

After watching Jaina compete, there was still other events to watch.

The Three Legged Race:

I think the kids' favorite event was "Who can be the fastest team to roll their teacher in toilet paper?"

Then it was time for the entire class to form a human chain while passing a hula hoop around in a circle. I promise you... these teachers think of everything!

Then it was time for some refreshments.... ah!

And blogger just told me I have too many pictures in my post, so this will have to be continued!

Weekday Weekend

This past Monday and Tuesday were definitely not ordinary days.

In fact, it was more like "Weekend" than "Week Day".

When you have best friends that come rolling into town, that is definitely cause for celebration.

When they come to visit, its like no time has ever passed.

The first thing on our list was eating at Zaxby's... of course! When you can't get Zaxby's in North Carolina, you have to eat it while you can!

The next day, the kids did what they do best. Just soaked up the sun outside and played to their hearts content.

I guess that included giving Miss Jessie a heart attack. Sometimes K is too brave! And he happened to climb the outside of this slide when his mom had gone to the store. I kept picturing him falling and breaking his arm and me having to tell his mom what happened on my watch! Luckily, I convinced him to get down and all was well.

We retired to L's home for a massive cookout. The food was outstanding. Burgers, wings, sides, desserts, you name it. Even the kids ate pretty well.

And then it was pool time. Just so you know, it may be 80's already here in the South, but that does not mean the pool is warm. Its ridiculously cold. For some reason, kids never seem to mind!

Looks like Jayce remembered how fun drain covers were from last year at the pool...

And this last picture was priceless :) I honestly thought T wasn't really going to throw her son Q in the water. I was wrong!
