17 Months

Jocelyn turned 17 months a few days ago.

No, she's still not walking. But the bright side is that I don't have to chase her to take her picture :)

I did have to bribe her with goldfish, though.

I am still madly in love with my baby. From her chubby squishy cheeks, to her mop of dirty blonde  hair, to her dimple in her chin, to her little painted toes.

Jocelyn has quite a personality. She's pretty easy going most of the time. She definitely knows what she wants, though! Its usually Dora. Or her brother or sister's tablet. Or to go swing outside.

Her vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds. New words include: Okay, map,  baby jaguar, back pack (see a trend?), milk, more, and hug.

She's transitioning from 2 naps down to 1. Some days she makes it until noon for just one nap. Other days, she still has two. No biggie.

She can climb up on the couch now. And stand for a second without holding on. She's cruising furniture with confidence now. I was hoping she'd be walking by this time since she had her braces, but she's obviously not ready quite yet.

Jocelyn still loves to be with me 90% of the time, but accepts Grandma and Dad and Hannah (our friend) as a substitute caregiver just fine.

She had been sleeping AWESOME for the entire last month. But she got up for 2 hours in the middle of the night last night. That little stinker pot!

I guess I'll keep her anyway :)

Surprise! Your best friends are here!

It was just a normal Summer Monday.

There were no camps. No plans on the calendar.

Jaina was bored. "What are we going to do today again?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe go to the fountains or something this afternoon."

The kids resorted to electronics to help pass the time while baby sister napped.

Unbeknownst to the kids, I kept stealing glances out the front door and window, just waiting to catch a glimpse of the SUV that would be appearing any minute. This was in between vacuuming and straightening up. Seriously, my kids should have guessed something was up. I never clean up first thing in the morning!

I finally saw the SUV coming down the street while I was out in the garage taking our recycling to the box. I rushed back inside and casually said to Jaina, "I think someone just pulled in. I wonder who it could be? Jaina, can you check?"

"IT'S ASHLAN!!!!!"

"AND KYLER!"

"AND BRITTANY!"

Jayce had to finish up a game quickly on his DS before he could go grab swords and play with Kyler.

It didn't take all the kids long to head out to the trampoline. See Jayce? He is terrified of bees and usually refuses to go outside at all. He lasted maybe 5 minutes outside this time.

This one could stay outside all day!

Jocelyn is Miss Brittany's pal :)

I remember when these two girls were 6 years old and played with their dolls and stuffed animals. Now they make funny faces while taking pictures and make videos of them singing tweeny pop songs.

For some reason, Kyler was LOVING having his picture made this time! Actually, the last two times! So different from when he was little and used to run from my camera and give me evil eyed looks!

Sporing her new Justice...

Best Buds :)

Time to say goodbye already! :(

Love you girl! :) Thanks for making us a stop on your Summer drive!

Overheard

While walking by the bathroom this morning, this is what I overheard:

Jayce: "How come the water level in the tub gets higher when someone gets in it?"

Jaina: "That's because of my body pressure. Or water pressure."

Jayce: "Because of how much the water weighs? What does water weigh, anyway?"

Jaina: "Two or three gallons? I think."

Don't worry. We had a little science lesson on displacement this morning :)

Instagram Late Dump

I guess it was time to dump my camera phone when it started compromising my phone's memory card :P

Moral of the story?

I need to take more pictures of Jayce :)

BTW, I'm JessStaska on Instagram :)

Tiny Roger

We were the proud pet owners of a wild box turtle for a mere two hours the other day.

I named him Tiny Tim.

I had a little turtle
His name was Tiny Tim.
I put him in the bathtub
to see if he could swim.

He drank up all the water.
He ate up all the soap.
He tried to eat the bathtub
but it wouldn't go down his throat.

Jaina was like "Uh.. .what? His name is NOT Tim. Its Roger." and acted like Tim was the worst name ever for a turtle.

Roger was rescued from our dog's snapping jaws. The only thing that was keeping him from being eaten was the little hole in the ground by the fence. Shaggy loves to catch and eat critters in our back yard.

So, we brought in the turtle and put him in the old hermit crab aquarium. And then I promptly had Jaina go wash her hands. I remember reading about how many nasty germs live on turtles. Then she went online to see what turtles like to eat. While she was busy doing that, the turtle climbed up the side of the aquarium and bumped the lid off.

And he promptly went back in the yard in the woods, on the other side of the fence.

Chimney Rock Adventures in June

Last Sunday found us with beautiful weather and no photo shoots scheduled. Sounds like a good time to head up to the NC mountains :)

You might have noticed that we were missing one member of our family. Jayce made the decision (or really, his anxiety made the decision) to skip Chimney Rock because of the possibility that he may have seen a bee or a wasp or a hornet or a yellow jacket. Or maybe there would be a thunder storm.

As it was, we saw one hornet, two bees, and got caught in a thunderstorm on top of the mountain. So, maybe it was a good thing that he didn't come!
