I'm Thankful for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday and I do not keep quiet about it. Yet, I'm going to spare you, dear readers, my laundry list of complaints and tell you instead that I was thankful for today.

I spent all day with these goofs:

I didn't have to cook, do dishes, travel, or make my kids behave in someone else's home.

Cracker Barrel for the win!

Brian was able to eat the traditional turkey meal with sweet potato casserole and pumpkin pie. My mom got chicken n' dumplings (an old favorite of hers). My son picked homemade macaroni and cheese. The girls were able to get their standard chicken and fries so they were happy. And me? Mouthwatering beef pot roast. Something I never make (my family doesn't eat beef) and hardly ever get to eat. It was heaven.

The kids got to pick a prize from the old country store, too. Jaina got a Yankee Candle de-odorizer. Jayce got wind-up chattering teeth (no, I'm not kidding), and Jocelyn found a Ty Beanie Ballz that was designed after Muno, a character from Yo Gabba Gabba. Can we say Best Thanksgiving Ever?

I even got to sneak in a picture! Go Grandma and her mastering of back button focus!!!

Yes, I admittedly did miss my Tucker, GA and my Southern Florida family very much. But since it just wasn't possible to travel this year due to our schedule (and Brian's crazy work project), coupled with the fact that my stepmom wasn't cooking on actual Thanksgiving, it was just easier to do our own thing this year.

The rest of the day was spent watching movies and lounging around and playing with neighbors. Jocelyn even played outside a bit.

Oh, and Jayce played Minecraft and Brian drank eggnog, took a nap, and then played darts with our neighbor. Seriously, it was a great day.

I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with family, love, blessings, and thankfulness!

  3. I have never been to Cracker Barrel before. We have them here, but I just have never thought about going. Sounds like 'home cooking' kinda food? Glad you had a great Thanksgiving, even if it was traditional! We haven't done Thanksgiving on the actual day in years and years.
