Memorial Day Weekend

Yeah, well.... I know it doesn't *look* like we were packing all weekend, but I promise that we did! Or, I mean that Brian did :)

Brian is very close with his best friend's family. They were kind enough to invite us over for a cookout and swim in their above ground pool. This was the first year that Jaina was tall enough to touch the bottom by herself! She happily swam with her strawberry shortcake waterwings on her arm.

Tiffany and Britney, Brian's "nieces" are only a few years older than Jaina. We get to see them most holidays like Christmas, 4th of July, etc. Jaina loves playing with older girls because they seem so much more exciting than kids her own age of course :)

Poor Jayce couldn't decide what he wanted. At first it seemed like a great idea to get in the pool, but once he was in, he was not a happy camper. He settled for sitting on my lap on the float while holding on for dear life. He was happy to get back out of the pool 30 minutes later, only to pitch a fit moments later about wanting to get back in. Typical two year old, right?

It can be done!

Whoa, hold everything!

A picture, of both my children, smiling AND looking at the camera at the same time?

The camera gods must have been smiling on me yesterday :)

Happy Birthday to Jaina

Although Jaina's actual birthday is today, we celebrated with her MOMS Club and Covenant friends this past Sunday at Hatcher Gardens.

Thank goodness my mom was around! We found out last minute that we were not having a guided tour (none of the volunteers could fit it into their schedule), so we were at a loss for what to do with the kids! My mom came up with a "treasure hunt" that the kids could go on. Since it was a nature preserve, the kids couldn't actually pick up any of the things they found, but they were so excited to just find the items and mark them off their list.

We had two rough moments of the party. The first one was discovering that I had no cups for the adults to have a beverage. It was 80 degrees outside, so I felt pretty bad!

The second one happened while we were cutting the cake. A woman stopped by to ask if we were missing a little boy. Um, where we? I guess we were! I was cutting cake, Gray was taking pictures, and Brian was chatting with a friend. No one had noticed Jayce leave the party. He was fine, all was well. I'm not even going to entertain the thoughts of things that *could* have happened to him with the slippery rocks, waterfall, and numerous ponds around.

All in all, it was a good day. Every guest commented on how enjoyable and different the party was :)

Kids Planet

Click on the picture of Jayce to view the web album of pictures :) For some reason, I am having a hard time blogging right from my picasa site. Hmm...

Anyway, Kids Planet is this awesome park in Greer, SC. Its a good 30-40 minute drive, so we don't go down there often. This time we went for a MOMS Club activity. The kids played their heart out for a good solid two hours. Jayce's favorite were the slides. Jaina liked hanging out with her buddy Tristan.

Jaina's name for this park is "Pizza Planet" instead of Kids Planet. You know, Pizza Planet from Toy Story?? She now wants to go to Disney World again!

Ease on Down the Road

I didn't get any pictures during the actual recital, but here's Jaina in the dressing room moments before her big performance. Her jazz number was set to "Ease on Down the Road" from The Oz. She also did a tap performance in her pajamas to a song called "Pajama Time". She did such a great job!

Two weeks... and counting!

We close in two weeks!!!!! AUGH!

I've got to pack.
I've got to call the cable, power, and water companies tomorrow.
I've got to fill out a change of address form at the post office.

Goodness, what else?

I'm so excited. Jaina and I've been reading a ton of library books about moving. Most of them are about the main character's sadness about not being near their friends. Jaina says she is not sad at all. She is looking forward to having her own room. She knows that all of her friends now can just come over to her new house. And she is excited about making new friends in the neighborhood :) She is ready!

Jayce, on the other hand, will probably take the transition hard. He doesn't like change. (Hmmm.. sounds familiar, kinda like my husband?) I'm worried about him, but he'll adjust. He always does :)

Happy Birthday... Again?

Somehow, we are going to have to learn to condense our Walker Family Birthday parties in the future!

This past weekend, we were fortunate enough to have Grandpa Lee, Grandma Kim, and Great-grandma Staska
drive all the way up from Atlanta to attend a family birthday party for the kids. Grandma Gray and Monica, our dear friend, added to the festivities.

Brian and I gave the kids each one present: Jaina received a Loving Family Twin Time doll house and Jayce got a Geotrax set. They both love their gifts.

I made the cake myself. Let's just say it tasted much better than it looks! YUM! Jayce liked licking the frosting off of Dora and would put the figure back on the cake to get more frosting :)

Random Video

The sound has been broken in my camera for months. Every once in a while, it will start making noises again, meaning the sound has come back. It happened this afternoon, so I shot a short video of Jaina putting on a new nightgown. I know, not terribly exciting, but at least the sounds works!

Happy Birthday to Jayce

Last week, we celebrated Jayce's transition from Toddler to Preschooler (even though he's technically not going anywhere until he's three!) I can't believe my baby boy is TWO! In some ways, he's such a baby still. He loves to be held. He needs his blankie and bear and rusty to go to sleep. But then he'll out of the blue do something that shocks me and makes me realize how grown up he really is!

We had a very low-key celebration. Our good friends, The Beals, came over as well as our neighbors, the Simpsons. It was a good number for Jayce since he doesn't like big crowds or unfamiliar situations. But it still made me feel guilty because we had such a blow-out blast party for Jaina's second. Oh well. She's my social butterfly and Jayce is my slow-to-warm kid. I love them both equally :)

Jayce got a crayola sprinkler, a leappad phonics bus, a chicken car, a new Percy train, and a TMBG cd/dvd. I think they are all his favorites!

Three cheers for Dodi, Brian's coworker and the amazing job she did on Jayce's cake! She rocks!! Her cake skills always blow me away. She's made a Baby Einstein for Jayce's first birthday and she made a Barbie Mermaidia cake for Jaina last year. Not to mention the Star Wars cake she did of a storm trooper for Brian one year :) It was his favorite!

Next week, we'll have having yet another party for the kids. This one will be a combined Jaina/Jayce family party with all the grandparents there. Should be fun! It is also Jaina's dance recital day as well.

Did we just buy a house?

Well, I guess techincally all we did is make an offer. I've learned that nothing is final in Real Estate until closing day. We are currently set to close on May 31st, but we possibly will be moving that date up to before Memorial Day if everything works out.

To be honest, Brian's not crazy about the house. Its such a shame because as soon as I walked inside, I knew I wanted it. I talked him into making an offer on it... "just to see what happens," I said. Well, what happened is that we beat out the other two offers by $500.

He's coming around more every day. I think by the time we move in, he'll actually like it.

I hope.
