Let's Go Swimming

We were too tired to drag ourselves (and all the accompanying crap) down to the beach on Sunday evening, so we appeased the kids by heading to the complex pool before dinner.

Moms, don't be afraid to get in the water with your camera! Just don't drop it, k? I used my 85 mm lens so I was able to stay right outside of splashing range. I eventually did put the camera down, though, so I could join the game of splash ball. Actually, it turned into a game of Monkey in the Middle which was pretty fun for me and Brian. And very frustrating for Jaina! :)

The Digs

When you don't quite know where to start, shouldn't you just start from the very beginning? At least, that's what Maria on The Sound of Music says :)

The beginning:

We left our home in the Upstate a little after 9 AM a week ago. We would have left sooner if someone (*cough* my husband) hadn't felt the need to sit on the couch in his pajamas eating peanuts watching CNN all morning. The kids had been up since before 7 and were raring to go!

Google Maps and my husband's GPS on his blackberry like to take us a different route every year. I have to say that this route was definitely the best! 4.5 hours... not bad at all! No driving through too many Podunk little towns with speed limits of 35 mph. (We don't like you, Jamestown!!) The only complaint is that the McDonald's we stopped at for lunch on the way was devoid of a playplace. Oh darn.

Anyway, we arrived in the town of Pawley's and headed straight for our condo. Now, when I say "our" condo, I totally do not mean we own one. We'd like to own one some day. Hell, if we are speaking about wishes, we'd really like to own a house right on the beach. And we will one day. As soon as my husband sells an organ on the black market. Oh, wait! We still wouldn't have enough money. Drat. Lottery, anyone?

We stay at the same rental location every year, but get a different unit each time. This year's trip  yielded the nicest condo yet. I think we all would have been quite happy living there.

Yeah... Brian on his laptop 5 minutes after arriving. Anyone surprised? Anyone?

Unfortunately, I am not going for an "artsy" theme with all these black and white shots. Nope, its called, "I suck at setting my custom white balance and I think I need to purchase an actual gray card and none of my WB presets were the right color for these crappy indoor energy saving lights".

Here's some color from the daylight :)

Jayce really loved playing with my remote that I just got for my camera. I had to delete a LOT of pictures over the week. On the upside, anytime he was antsy and impatient, all I had to do was hand him my remote and he was instantly occupied :)

And then he was hungry and wanted a lunchable pizza. 'Cause he's a goof like that.

And that concludes my photo expose on our condo by the beach. I promise the pictures get more exciting later on!

Our Trip in a Nut (Sea) Shell

You guys do know that when I neglect my blog, its for a good purpose, right?

This time, the purpose was THE BEACH VACATION.

What could be more important than that?

We had an amazing time. I could blog about it for days and I probably will! But since I'm dying to have a current post, here's a recap of our trip in a sea shell :)

By the way, we went to Pawley's Island, South Carolina. Its about 20 miles north of Georgetown and about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach. It is THE only place Brian will consider taking us to the beach every year. He doesn't like change much. :)

Pawley's mantra is "Arrogantly Shabby" and you see this theme throughout the architecture of the island.

Pawley's residents boast that its the oldest seaside resort in America.

While we were there, our family didn't waste a minute of our time resting.

We went to the pool daily.

We played miniature golf.

We played in a live band (well, Jayce did.)

Jaina got a new pet.

We went to a wedding.

We ate ice cream.

We built a bear (and a dog).

I took an insane amount of photos of my kids.

Oh, and we went to the ocean, too.

Okay, I'm done! For now anyway :) Be prepared to re-live every single second of our trip through 600 pictures, k? Okay, okay, okay... I promise not to be that annoying. I promise to be concise and only talk about the highlights.

Until then....

Summer Fun... and its only the middle of June!

(a quick forward.... yes, I know I should be publicly flogged for leaving my readers hanging for an entire week. I am so sorry! Life has been busy. I've made the decision to sleep instead of blog. Or read a book. Or play with my kids. Or hang out with neighbors. I just don't have enough hours in the day anymore!)

Bored is not a word in our vocabulary. Nope. We are most certainly doers. Not to say we don't love to rest and veg in front of the TV, but that's not how we spend the majority of our time.

So, what have we been up to (besides neglecting my blog?)

Well... let me just show you instead :)

First we went to the Zoo:

Then we hung out with my friends at our local La Leche League Meeting. Yeah, I know I don't have a kid that's nursing now, but doesn't mean I love any of these women any less! Its so nice to still be a part of this wonderful group :)

The next day we purchase our first Slip n' Slide! It was only $5 so I wonder how long it will last :)

Jayce was a bit unsure of it at first...

But after watching Jaina, he got the hang of it:

And then went off to inspect the bottom of his foot, which was much more important.

For Jaina, it was pure bliss:

But our fun didn't stop there...

The next day, we met some friends out at the park :)

(That's Jayce's buddy "E")

When we got home, Jayce decided to help me rid the yard of weeds.

I'd say he's got a lot of work to do.

Oh, and by the way, my husband got one of these the other day:

Just ignore the orange crocs, k?

And that was our week in a nutshell. On to the next one!
