Our Anniversary

On July 31st, Brian and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary and our 9 years of our first date. (Well, technically we met on June 27th and had our first official date a week later, but you get the picture).

Is it sad that I can't even remember what we did for our other anniversaries? I'm so dedicated to documenting each little bit of my children's lives but fall very short in the area of my marriage.

I'm not sure we even did anything to celebrate or take pictures of every year. I guess that's what happens when you are married with young kids. :)

However, we may have a new Anniversary Tradition on our hands. Last year, Brian had the great idea to drive up to Lake Lure and spend the night at a bed and breakfast up there.

We go to Lake Lure as a family 4+ times a year or more. Its very different, though, to go up there without the kids. Jaina asked us if we could bring her back the semi-precious stones when we went to the Gem Mines by the river. Sorry, babe, but Daddy and I won't visit the Gem Mines on our trip. Or get ice cream at the  Hershey's store. Or buy stuffed animals at the Chimney Rock gift shop. Or walk the Woodland Adventure Trail. That's what we like to do as a family :)

So, what did Brian and I do?

We laid around and watched TV.

That's right. We asked my mom to babysit so we could drive 45 minutes away to watch TV uninterrupted.

And it was glorious.

While Brian and I watched "The Matrix" and "The Matrix Reloaded", I read my trashy romance novel during commercials and actually finished it :)

If that's not bliss, I don't know what is!

Jaina had given us a stuffed animal dog "to remember me by".

We went out to dinner that night at Alyssa's restaurant. Most people tend to go to La Strada's when in that area, but we feel like Alyssa's is a hidden gem. The food is great, the atmosphere relaxed, and the service fast.

It was raining when we got up to Lake Lure on Saturday early evening, but we had hoped that the rain would have stopped on Sunday so we could play Miniature Golf and climb the mountain.

But it didn't. So we ate breakfast on our covered porch.

And then went shopping.

'Cause there was nothing else to do.

I had a hard time finding a place to put the camera that wasn't wet!

Oh well! Despite the rain, it wasn't a wasted trip at all by any means.

Our anniversary marked the agreed-upon time that we would wait  before TTC (trying to conceive) our third child.

I can assure you that we did not let a little rain stop us on that activity :)

But when our kids asked what we did that weekend, we wisely left that part out!

  5. Happy anniversary!

Our anniversary is 5 days away from my birthday and we usually just celebrate both together... Sometimes I actually like that, but sometimes it's nice to have 2 different celebrations! =)

  7. Sounds the like the perfect weekend :) And just about what Ben would want to do, too. Lay around and watch movies and read. I can't remember the last time we did that without kids!
